Murray and Williams had five match points but were denied by some brilliant play from Britons O'Mara and Barnett, who won the second-round meeting 3-6 6-4 7-6 (18-16).
Both pairings were given a huge ovation by an enthralled crowd on court two, who were sad to see the Murray and Williams partnership end but delighted for their inspired opponents.

Serena Williams retired due to injury a year ago in the first round of Wimbledon, she returned this Tuesday to the center court of the All England Tennis Club with the intention of improving the sad end of 2021, simply that was not possible as she was left out of the third Grand Slam of the year by losing in a thrilling game in London.
France's Harmony Tan prevailed by a score of 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (10-7) to the 40-year-old American tennis player in an extremely exciting game where Serena Williams' younger sister could not close out a match on her serve in the third set and also lost 4-0 leads in the final tiebreak.

World number one Iga Swiatek confirmed her dominance of women's tennis by sweeping aside American teenager Coco Gauff 6-1 6-3 to claim her second French Open title in three years on Saturday.
The 21-year-old Pole's blend of power, poise and precision on the clay was too much to handle for the 18-year-old Gauff, who never recovered from a shaky start in her maiden Grand Slam final.
