Tragedy struck Iraq's online community on Friday night as Ghufran Sawadi, a social media personality known as Umm Fahad, was shot dead outside her Baghdad residence. The attack, captured on surveillance camera and shared widely online, has sparked outrage and raised questions about online safety in the country.

The graphic video shows a lone gunman on a motorcycle approaching Sawadi's car, firing shots at close range before escaping. Authorities have verified the video's authenticity and are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing.

Sawadi was a popular figure on TikTok, known for her dance videos featuring modern clothing and pop music. These videos previously landed her in trouble with Iraqi authorities who deemed them "inappropriate." In 2023, she served a six-month prison sentence for violating social norms.

Sawadi's death isn't an isolated incident. Last September, another prominent Iraqi social media personality, Noor Alsaffar (Noor BM), was shot dead in Baghdad. Alsaffar's content, similar to Sawadi's, included dancing alongside fashion and makeup tips. While many mourned her loss, the timing coincided with a national crackdown on LGBTQ expression.

These killings highlight the complex social landscape of Iraq, where online activity can have serious repercussions. The motives behind these attacks remain unclear, but they cast a dark shadow over the country's growing online community.
