Max Verstappen took yet another win at the Brazilian Grand Prix, his 17th of the season, followed by Lando Norris. However, the star of the race was Fernando Alonso, who managed to get on the podium again, after an epic fight with the brave Checo Perez, in which the Mexican ended up taking a 0.053 second defeat after leaving everything on the track.

It has been 18 years since Michael Schumacher's duel with Fernando at Imola, the day he was driving with an engine problem and today's duel was much the same, showing that at 42 years old, his talent is still as strong as it was that day in 2005.

His car was slower, mainly due to the fact that Checo Perez had DRS for 17 laps and that allowed him to chase the Spaniard time and time again. Alonso had to fight to hold on until the penultimate lap, where Checo Perez overtook him, but he refused to give up.

He made up ground on the final lap and passed the Mexican, before making a defensive move right at the limit of the regulations, with a very dangerous change of direction under braking. Despite his rival's determination, Alonso won the battle, but not without suffering at the finish line, with both cars running parallel to each other.

As has been a repeat theme throughout the 2023 Formula 1 season, one half of the Red Bull garage was enjoying the sweet taste of victory in Mexico, whilst the other side of the team were contemplating another afternoon without any points.

Christian Horner spoke pre-race of the importance of trying to secure a Red Bull one-two in the drivers' standings for this season, something the team has never been able to do, yet Perez tried to pull of an audacious move within the first few seconds of the race and it proved a costly mistake.

Charles Leclerc started the race on pole, yet he was left stunned by the pace of both Red Bull cars as soon as the lights went out in Mexico City.

With five races remaining in the 2023 Formula 1 season, Lewis Hamilton is giving up the fight for the second place in the Drivers' Championship.

The British driver currently has 194 points, 30 back of Sergio Perez, and given how the Red Bull RB19 has performed so far this season, he doesn't see a way of overtaking the Mexican.

"I mean its ultimately largely dependent on Checo's performance moving forwards. As he should easily have second as you know," Hamilton recently stated.

The seven-time world champion lost his rear right wheel when he hit the front wing of Russell's car as he attempted to pass him on the outside.

Russell also spun but recovered and, after an immediate pit-stop for repairs, rejoined the race and finished fourth.

"I feel so sorry for my team," said a crestfallen Hamilton. "The opportunity was there to for us to score a lot of good points.

"It was all in the heat of the moment. I mean... I didn't really understand what happened. I just felt the tap from behind and I don't think George probably had anywhere to go.
