In an emotional video to fans Marco Reus recently announced his departure from Borussia Dortmund at the end of this season. This is after deciding not to renew his contract.

“ I have got to play in this wonderful stadium for 12 years. I have dedicated half of my life to this club, been through highs and lows. More highs in my opinion.” Reus stated. This was before officially breaking the heart-breaking news of his personal decision not to extend his contract as a Borussia Dortmund player.

Marco Reus has been a backbone and key player at Borussia Dortmund. Having been raised in Dortmund and also been part of Dortmund’s academy setup, Reus got the chance to reunite with his club in 2012 from Borussia Monchengladbach. Ever since coming to Borussia Dortmund, Marco Reus has played more than 420 matches and still counting. He has scored over 165 goals and have provided more than 125 assists.

 According to CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke, he stated that Marco Reus has indeed been one of Borussia Dortmund’s greatest players no doubt. “ Born in Dortmund, 10 years spent in the academy and 12 years within the first team, his connection to Borussia Dortmund is extraordinary. We will Marco Reus all the best for his future from the bottom of our hearts.  We also hope he'll return to Dortmund when he retire because there is plenty of exciting roles for him here.”

Marco Reus has had several achievements  in his career as a Dortmund player. Marco Reus has two DFB cups with the club and was Dortmund’s captain as from 2018 until recently when he passed the armband this season. Marco Reus has also won Germany Player of the Year in 2019.

In his message to the fans, he said “it’s made me so proud. I’m so incredibly grateful to have got to play for this club for so many years. It was so important fro me to share this first with you, the fans.”

Also in a statement at the clubs web, Marco Reus added that he his quite aware that the farewell at the end of the season will be tough, but he is glad that there us clarity and that they can now fully focus on important final games. “ We have a big goal ahead of us that we want to achieve together. We want to go to Wembley.  We have to bring the Champions league back to Dortmund. “ Reus said.

This portrays Reus resilience and prowess in matters concerning football. Marco Reus is also remembered for his winning  penalty in 2013 against Bayern Munich in the UEFA champions league final.
