People can say what they want about Ryan Garcia, but he's willing to make big fights happen. So is Canelo Alvarez, although many believe he's ducking a certain fighter at the moment.
While getting ready to face Devin Haney, during a press week stop in New York City, Garcia took the time to speak with The Breakfast Club. The topic of Canelo vs. David Benavidez came up, and Garcia left things clear.
Ryan Garcia says Canelo must fight Benavidez
He has to fight Benavidez to keep boxing going. Who wants to live in the past? This is the biggest fight to make... You're Canelo, the face of boxing. Why aren't you doing it?
Garcia still thinks Canelo would win a fight against Benavidez, saying that it won't be easy but his experience will get him the victory.
Alvarez still hasn't chosen his next opponent, but Benavidez has moved on and accepted a bout against a different fighter.
Garcia was then asked about his relationship with Alvarez, which took a nosedive towards the end of Canelo's time with Golden Boy.
He would just say little s**t about me. It's crazy. Just call me up and tell me you need to be doing this... I took it on the chin though, but he made me look like a clown.
Alvarez didn't like the way Garcia went about things, and didn't think the younger fighter took boxing seriously enough. It seems to have had a strong effect on Garcia mentally.
