Stefon Diggs is one of the best receivers in the NFL, but also one of the toughest to deal with. His unexpected departure from the Buffalo Bills seems to indicate this, as the Bills sent him to the Houston Texans at a bargain price.

It is uncommon for a team to want to part ways with a fully capable receiver, especially one who has been their best offensive piece in recent seasons. However, the Bills not only traded Diggs but also seemed to lose out in the process.

In the negotiation, the Bills gave up Diggs, a sixth-round pick in the 2024 Draft, and their fifth-round pick in 2025. In exchange, the Texans only paid with their second-round pick next year, and Buffalo must also absorb the dead cap from the receiver's contract.

Diggs was the Bills' top receiver over the past four seasons, contributing 445 catches, 5,372 yards, and 37 touchdowns during his time in Buffalo. Despite this, the Bills accepted the blow, much like the Minnesota Vikings did in 2020.

Houston's front office, led by general manager Nick Caserio, has been very active in the free agency period, especially seeking backup for its second-year quarterback, C.J. Stroud, who had only one receiver with more than 60 catches in 2023, Nico Collins.

Diggs' arrival joins the signings of tight end Dalton Schultz, receiver Noah Brown, and running back Joe Mixon, who also stood out as a receiver with the Cincinnati Bengals. In addition, Stroud will have the hands of receiver Tank Dell, recently recovered from an injury.

After three seasons with a losing record, the Texans were the revelation of 2023, winning the AFC South with a 10-7 record, although they were eliminated in the Divisional Round by the Baltimore Ravens.

Caserio and rookie head coach DeMeco Ryans aim to surpass last year's performance and turn the team into a worthy rival to the Kansas City Chiefs.
