The NFL is eliminating the hip-drop tackle. NFL team owners on Monday unanimously approved a rule that bans players from using a swivel technique to tackle an opponent.

A violation will result in a 15-yard penalty and could ultimately result in fines for players.

NFL executive Jeff Miller said the hip-drop tackle was used 230 times last season and resulted in 15 players missing time with injuries.

The NFL Players Association has adamantly opposed the rule.

Los Angeles Rams' newly acquired backup quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, opened up about his recent two-game suspension for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substances policy. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Garoppolo admitted to a "mistake" regarding his failure to obtain a valid therapeutic-use exemption, despite the prescribed nature of the medication.

Although the suspension won't impact his participation in offseason programs, the 32-year-old quarterback will face restrictions once the regular season commences. Garoppolo expressed optimism about the situation, hoping that the first two games will "pass by" and that the team will secure victories in his absence.
