Kylian Mbappe has matched Zlatan Ibrahimovic's scoring tally at Paris Saint-Germain to become the club's joint-second highest scorer ever, after netting a brace in their 3-1 win over Saint-Etienne on Saturday.

The France international is now 44 goals away from Edinson Cavani, who is the club's all-time highest scorer with 200 goals. To overtake the Uruguayan striker, however, Mbappe may need to stay for at least one more season at PSG, with his contract coming to an end in summer amid interest from LaLiga Santander giants Real Madrid.

"I've equalled [Ibrahimovic's tally] and, if there are no big problems, I'll overtake him," Mbappe said after the game.

"Edi's record remains [to be broken]. We'll see how it goes.

"You can't ignore the prospect of being the top scorer in PSG's history."

Mbappe, therefore, might be motivated enough by this challenge to stay at the Parc des Princes beyond this summer.

Mbappe went on to express his gratitude towards PSG's fans who have hailed him for his performances on the pitch this season.

"It's good to receive the affection from the fans," he added.

"We also play for this type of thing. There is always the part of the goals, the statistics... but leaving a mark on people's memory is part of making history. I liked it a lot and I thank them for it."
