Oscar de la Hoya is one of the most visible promoters in the boxing world and wants to be linked with the best to negotiate interesting fights.

Canelo Alvarez, as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world and absolute Super Middleweight champion, is once again in his sights.

Both the promoter and the boxer from Jalisco have worked together before, but the relationship ended badly in 2020.

De la Hoya on Saul Alvarez: It hurt me when he accused me
When Saul Alvarez and Golden Boy Promotions were together they got the contract with DAZN that would give the Guadalajara native 365 million dollars for 11 fights. But shortly after the Mexican sued the promoter, De la Hoya and DAZN, which ended the relationship between the parties.

"It hurt me a little bit when he accused me of I don't know what. I was always honest with him, I always worked hard for him, I always fought for him to win his big money. Obviously I got him the biggest contract in the history of any sport and I don't really know what happened," De la Hoya said.

"For me that's the past, let's work and look to the future because there are a lot of things you can do. Especially that he is Mexican, I am pocho, Mexican-American... but yes there are many things you can do to work together and grow the sport, change lives, which is what we do and I like that a lot."

Why did Canelo Alvarez break away from Oscar de la Hoya?

According to statements Canelo Alvarez gave to The Breakfast Club, De la Hoya is not a person to be trusted.

"I think when you're talking to him, you don't know if he's telling you the truth or lying to you. We were loyal to him. I was the only fighter who stayed with him when everything went down, because I'm loyal. And I treat everybody like family and I did the same with Golden Boy, but I don't think he's that kind of person. I don't know if he's a good person or not, but he's not the person he appears to be. With him everything is business," Alvarez said at the time.
