The Pittsburgh Steelers, on the rebound or not, are in the NFL postseason after defeating the Baltimore Ravens in overtime in Week 18 and the Las Vegas Raiders beat the Los Angeles Chargers in overtime.

With this, the career of veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was extended at least one more week to visit the heavily favored Kansas City Chiefs in the Wild Card Round.

Big Ben's ironic statements

For "Big Ben" things are as they are and, although with a completely ironic tone, he told some truths about the perceptions of the game next Sunday, January 16.

"We probably aren't supposed to be here," Roethlisberger said. "We probably are not a very good football team. Out of 14 teams that are in, we're probably at number 14. We're double-digit underdogs in the playoffs. So let's just go plan and have fun and see what happens."

Indianapolis’ city streets were bustling Monday afternoon, almost five hours before No. 1 Alabama and No. 3 Georgia played for college football’s national championship.

The blue Colts attire that local fans usually wear was replaced with red hats, shirts, jackets and jerseys of the two Southeastern Conference teams, playing for a title in the Midwest.

Miami Dolphins parted ways with Brian Flores, Minnesota Vikings sacked head coach Mike Zimmer and Chicago Bears fired Matt Nagy after all three teams missed out on the play-offs.

The Vikings and Bears also relieved respective general managers Rick Spielman and Ryan Pace of their duties.

'Black Monday' is the day after the final match of the NFL regular season, when owners traditionally sack coaches and general managers of underperforming teams. The term was first used in the late 1990s by newspapers in the United States.

"After evaluating where we are as an organisation, and what we need going forward to improve, I determined that key dynamics of our football organisation weren't functioning at a level I want it to be," said Dolphins owner Stephen Ross.

Stetson Bennett delivered the biggest throws of his storybook career and Georgia’s defense sealed the sweetest victory in program history, vanquishing rival Alabama 33-18 in the College Football Playoff title Monday night for its first national title in 41 years.

Bennett connected with Adonai Mitchell on a 40-yard touchdown to give No. 3 Georgia a 19-18 lead with 8:09 left and then hooked up with Brock Bowers for a 15-yard TD on a screen to put the Bulldogs up eight with with 3:33 left.

The final blow came from Georgia’s dominant defense. Kelee Ringo intercepted an underthrown deep ball down the sideline by Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady had his customary weekly Thursday press conference prior to the Week 18 game against the Carolina Panthers, in which he evaded questions on the topic of Antonio Brown.

Brady, who was instrumental in getting AB to the New England Patriots in 2019 and the Bucs in 2020, is hurt by what happened, but is focused on the end of the season.
