Shawn Mendes is confident that he and Camila Cabello will be alright. The "Why Why Why" singer is considering his current relationship status with the Fifth Harmony alum after ending their two-year romance in 2021, with a brief reconciliation in 2023. Additionally, there have been some difficulties, even though the two have tried their best to keep their friendship going.

In an interview with Apple Music 1's Zane Lowe on November 14, he stated, "I think we haven't been the closest over the last couple of years, but I think we really know each other."

"We spent a lot of time together, and we truly know each other's hearts," the 26-year-old continued. We are able to see right through each other's nonsense, even when there is a lot of noise and sound. And having that is just pleasant.

In retrospect, he was particularly happy that Camila entered his life at that time because he needed someone to help him become a little less disciplined. He acknowledged that "that's where I'm out of balance."

"She would get very angry with me for not having a cheeseburger," he laughed. "And it was fantastic. It was enormous. At that point in my life, I needed that.

The "Treat You Better" singer has been open about their romance since their final breakup in 2023, stating that much of the talk about it was "brutal."

"Honestly, I think Camila and I have just done the best job at preserving our private little fire of love for each other," Shawn said on the Jay Shetty Podcast in September, "because no matter how strong mentally you are when there are millions of people commenting on it, it's so hard not to be affected by it and to be swayed by it and to be inspired by it."

The two still occasionally text, he added, adding, "As long as we're good, all the noise is just noise."

His words, "We deeply respect each other," went on. "I'm just lucky she's an amazing human being, and she's incredibly understanding, thoughtful, and caring."
