Richard Gere is bidding Hollywood farewell. The Runaway Bride star did, in fact, reveal his intentions to relocate to Spain with his wife Alejandra Silva and their family, jokingly stating to Jimmy Fallon that their move is "world news."
"My wife speaks Spanish, and—is anyone else having trouble with this?" On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on November 20, the actor made a joke while the audience gasped. "I will definitely be back!"
"My wife is Spanish, and she gave me about seven years here, so we're going to spend some years in Madrid," the 75-year-old added.
In addition to Homer, 24, whom Richard shares with his ex-wife Carey Lowell, and Albert, 11, from Alejandra's marriage to Govind Friedland, the couple, who were married in 2018, has sons Alexander, 5, and James, 4. The alumnus of An Officer and a Gentleman provided a compelling argument for why the family should have a seamless transition despite the distance from their American home.
"Our children will thrive there because they are bilingual," he continued.
Richard also hinted at his wife's ambitious plans for their new house, which will be nearer to her relatives.
He revealed, "My wife was raised in a large Spanish family, which is similar to a large Italian family." Her grandmother, who died around a year and a half ago, or two years ago, was the kind of glue that kept everything together. I can therefore see my wife evolving into this extended family's new grandmother. She has already started organizing Sunday lunches for, say, thirty-five people.
The Pretty Woman star revealed his feelings about the significant move earlier this year.
In April, he told Vanity Fair Spain, "I have never lived outside of the United States on a full-time basis, so I think going to Madrid is going to be a great adventure." Additionally, I believe my kids will find it fascinating. Being nearer to her family, her lifelong friends, and her culture will be fantastic for Alejandra.
