Former NFL great and burgeoning media darling Jason Kelce had one of the weirdest interactions with some fans following his taping of Jimmy Kimmel Live! On November 21. There were a few folks waiting outside as he exited the studio, looking for an autograph from him. Kelce wasn’t in the mood to sign; he said he doesn’t sign for people who follow him. One such fan grew aggressive: yelling curses, such as, “You ain’t nobody special,” and saying the former athlete was acting cocky.

The man berated Kelce further, comparing him to celebrities like Morgan Freeman who he claimed were more accommodating. Undeterred, Kelce tried to reason with the group. “I’m not trying to be rude or mean,” he explained, but the yelling persisted. The air was hot, but Kelce showed incredible poise: he exited his car to approach the fans personally. He signed a few autographs for people, including the aggressive one, who turned in a dramatically different direction once he was given attention. “I am ashamed of that moment, man,” he said, thereafter apologizing profusely and showing much admiration for Kelce. The two shook hands to seal up the moment on a conciliatory note.

The incident brought out Kelce’s character as he moved with class from athlete to public figure. Social media users praised the professionalism under pressure. This incident also encapsulated the trials of high-profile figures in setting boundaries while mingling with fans.

The appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Was to promote his upcoming ESPN late-night series, which will première January 3. Aside from business ventures, the former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker has personal milestones he’s enjoying. Recently, he and his wife, Kylie announced they are expecting their fourth daughter to join their growing family of three young girls.

As a celebrated NFL veteran, Jason Kelce earned praise for his stewardship and tenacity, qualities that continue to define him after football. Be it through the media or family life, Kelce serves as a role model in the way one handles adversity with humility and grace.
