Ed Sheeran has shared a health update, revealing that he has been recovering from shingles over the past month.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday, April 28, the Grammy winning artist reflected on what he described as "a lot of new beginnings" in his life, while also disclosing his recent diagnosis. He wrote that he had been dealing with shingles for several weeks and noted that he would not recommend the experience, although he is now on the mend.
Shingles is a viral condition that causes a painful skin rash. According to medical guidance from the Mayo Clinic, it is caused by the same virus responsible for chickenpox. After a person recovers from chickenpox, the virus can remain inactive in the body for years before reactivating later in life as shingles. While the condition is generally not life threatening, it can cause significant discomfort. It is also more commonly seen in adults over the age of 50.
Alongside his health update, Sheeran also shared a personal change, revealing that he has shaved his head. He explained that the decision was symbolic, marking what he described as a fresh start. He added that he is going through several new beginnings at the moment and said he is enjoying the change in appearance, even suggesting he may keep the hairstyle.
The update comes as Sheeran continues an active period in his music career. His most recent album, Play, was released in September 2025. He is also in the middle of his Loop Tour, which began earlier in the year and is scheduled to continue through December.
After a short break from performing, he is preparing to return to the stage with a concert at Estadio Quisqueya in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. This show will launch the Latin America leg of the tour. Sheeran expressed excitement about returning to live performances, writing on social media that he could not wait to get back to touring and reconnect with fans.
In addition to discussing his own health, Sheeran recently shared an update about his wife Cherry Seaborn following her surgery to remove a cancerous tumor. He confirmed that she is recovering well after the procedure, which took place after the birth of their second child. The couple, who share two daughters, have since focused on family life and recovery.
Sheeran's recent posts reflect both personal challenges and positive changes, as he continues balancing family, health, and a demanding global tour schedule.
