Visa Cash App RB has announced Daniel Ricciardo's exit , bringing an end to his latest chapter in Formula 1. The news broke shortly after the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix, where Ricciardo secured the fastest lap and earned the Driver of the Day accolade.
The team confirmed Ricciardo's exit through an official statement, expressing their gratitude for his contributions over the past two seasons. Team Principal Laurent Mekies remarked, "Daniel has been an integral part of our team, bringing not just his skill on the track but also his infectious positivity. We are grateful for his dedication and wish him all the best for the future."
Ricciardo, known for his trademark smile and vibrant personality, has had a remarkable career in Formula 1. He made his debut in 2011 with Hispania Racing (HRT) and quickly climbed the ranks, joining Toro Rosso in 2012 and then Red Bull Racing in 2014. His time with Red Bull was marked by numerous successes, including multiple race wins and a third-place finish in the Drivers' Championship in his debut season with the team.
After leaving Red Bull at the end of 2018, he had stints with Renault and McLaren, where he faced difficulties in finding consistent form. His move to Visa Cash App RB was seen as a fresh start, but the partnership has now come to an unexpected end.
Reflecting on his career, Ricciardo shared his thoughts in an emotional interview after the Singapore Grand Prix. "It's been a rollercoaster of emotions. Knowing this could be my last race with the team, I wanted to give it my all. The support from the fans and the team has been incredible, and I'm grateful for every moment," he said.
Confirming his departure, Ricciardo wrote on his Instagram, "I've loved this sport my whole life. It's wild and wonderful and been a journey. To the teams and individuals that have played their part, thank you. To the fans who love the sport sometimes more than me haha thank you. It'll always have its highs and lows but it's been fun and truth be told I wouldn't change it. Until the next adventure."
There are no confirmed plans for him to join another team, and it is possible that this could mark the end of his illustrious career in Formula 1. Regardless of what lies ahead, Ricciardo's impact on the sport is undeniable.
