Lisa Kudrow is opening up about a surprising reality behind one of television's most beloved sitcoms, Friends. Despite playing the eccentric and fan-favorite Phoebe Buffay, Kudrow says she often felt like the least valued member of the cast.

In a recent interview, the actress candidly shared that she was sometimes labeled "the sixth Friend," even within professional circles. According to Kudrow, there was a lingering sense that her success was more luck than long-term potential.

"There wasn't much expectation for what I could become," she explained. "It felt like people thought I just happened to land in the right place."

The hit series, which also starred Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry, ran for a decade from 1994 to 2004 and became a global phenomenon. Still, Kudrow says the attention wasn't always evenly distributed.

Even after winning an Emmy Award in 1998 for her performance, she recalled that industry insiders didn't necessarily view her as a breakout star with a defined future.

Ironically, that lack of expectation gave her creative freedom. Without being boxed into a specific image early on, Kudrow explored a variety of roles in both film and television, gradually shaping a career on her own terms.

She also addressed long-standing misconceptions about Phoebe. While some viewers labeled the character as unintelligent, Kudrow strongly disagrees.

"To me, she was never foolish," she said. "She just saw the world differently."

Over time, Kudrow found herself connecting more deeply with the role. What started as a character far removed from her own personality slowly influenced her outlook, making her more open and curious.

Now in her 60s, Kudrow is embracing a new phase in her career. Having recently revisited The Comeback, she's also reflecting on aging in Hollywood, noting she's less interested in maintaining a certain image and more focused on meaningful roles.

"I'm ready for what comes next," she said, signaling a shift from proving herself to simply enjoying the work.
