Jon Batiste has canceled several upcoming performances in New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut as he attends to personal circumstances, telling fans that he hopes to return to the stage soon.
The acclaimed composer and performer announced the cancellations through statements shared by the social media accounts of venues where he was scheduled to perform. Among the affected dates was his August 13 performance at the Westville Music Bowl.
"As I navigate some personal circumstances," Batiste wrote, explaining that he unfortunately needed to cancel part of his upcoming performance schedule.
Although the announcement did not provide further details, Batiste reassured his audience that he and his team were continuing to explore opportunities to connect with fans through live music. He also pointed to the ongoing rollout of his upcoming albums, Monk Meditations and Monk Movements.
The musician said his team was working on new ways to share his music while expressing excitement about returning to performances. Refunds for the canceled shows will be available through the original points of purchase.
Batiste's announcement comes at a significant time in his personal life. His wife, journalist and author Suleika Jaouad, has been undergoing a prolonged battle with cancer, a journey that has required extensive treatment and medical care.
Jaouad was first diagnosed with leukemia in 2010 before experiencing a relapse in December 2021 and another recurrence during the summer of 2024. In July, she offered an insight into how her illness has affected her daily life, explaining that an apparently empty calendar can still be consumed by medical appointments, infusions, fatigue and the practical demands associated with treatment.
She also described experiencing a rare period when she unexpectedly felt well, giving her an opportunity to consider ordinary activities such as gardening, answering emails or spending time with friends.
Batiste has previously spoken about supporting his wife throughout her health journey. In March 2025, he described their experience as an ongoing process involving different stages of treatment. He acknowledged that her treatment could continue indefinitely until medical advances provide new possibilities.
The couple have approached the situation together, with Batiste emphasizing his commitment to supporting Jaouad through both periods when her cancer is absent and difficult moments when it returns.
His decision to cancel performances therefore comes as the musician balances his professional responsibilities with circumstances in his personal life.
While fans will have to wait for some of his scheduled performances, Batiste has made clear that the cancellations do not represent a withdrawal from music. Instead, he says he is looking forward to finding new opportunities to share his work and eventually return to the stage.
