Dylan Carter's loved ones are mourning a great loss.
Nearly three years after competing on The Voice season 24, the aspiring singer died on April 25 in Colleton County, South Carolina, according to his nonprofit The Local Voice. He was 24.
"With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Dylan Carter, co-founder of The Local Voice, talented musician, and someone who meant so much to our community," the organization—which raises funds for women fighting cancer—said on Facebook on April 26. "Dylan was the heart of what we do."
"He believed every voice matters and lived that every day. Through his music, kindness, and smile, he brought people together and made everyone feel seen," the message read. "We are so grateful for Dylan and for the love he gave this community and for the impact he leaves behind."
Colleton County law enforcement officials—who did not identify the victim—told TMZ that a person was killed in a single-car accident on the Lowcountry Highway.
Moncks Corner Mayor Thomas Hamilton Jr. also addressed the incident in a social media tribute.
"Our family is heartbroken to learn of Dylan Carter's death in a car accident," he wrote on Facebook on April 26. As a gifted singer, he frequently entertained our community with his performances at town events. His kindness and charm earned him a great deal of respect, and his absence will be felt deeply.
Dylan was scheduled to perform on April 27 at the Town of Moncks Corner's "Music on Main" event. The town announced on Facebook that the event had been canceled.
Dylan joined Reba McEntire's team during his time on the singing competition, earning chair turns from the "Consider Me Gone" singer, as well as John Legend, Gwen Stefani, and Niall Horan during his blind audition.
The then-20-year-old, who was eliminated later in the season during the Battle Rounds, captivated judges and fans by singing Whitney Houston's "I Look to You" as a tribute to his late mother.
"When I saw y'all turn around, I saw my mom," he admitted during his audition. "She passed away in October, and she asked me to sing it at her funeral. So, I did it. I tried but couldn't get through it. This was the best second opportunity. "I just made her very proud."
