Olivia Rodrigo has revealed that her upcoming album draws significant inspiration from the iconic series Sex and the City, particularly one of its most beloved relationships.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, April 30, the 23 year old pop star shared that her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, was influenced by more than just a single moment from the show. While host Jimmy Fallon mentioned hearing that one song had been inspired by the series, Rodrigo explained that the connection runs much deeper.

She pointed to the relationship between Miranda Hobbes and Steve Brady, played by Cynthia Nixon and David Eigenberg, as a major creative influence. Rodrigo said that several tracks on the album were shaped by the emotional journey of the couple, whose on and off dynamic has resonated with audiences for years.

Rodrigo spoke enthusiastically about her love for the show, calling it one of her favorites and admitting that she has watched every episode multiple times. One particular scene stood out to her, in which Miranda expresses her feelings while reconnecting with Steve. Rodrigo recalled being deeply moved by the moment, especially when Miranda shares that she wants to tell Steve about the small, meaningful things in her life. That emotional honesty sparked an idea for a song and became a defining influence on the album's tone.

The singer also discussed her upcoming Unraveled Tour, which she announced the same day as her television appearance. When asked about the meaning behind the tour's title, she chose to keep the details under wraps, hinting that fans will understand its significance soon. She did, however, express excitement about bringing the new music to life on stage and connecting with audiences through live performances.

Rodrigo first announced the album earlier in April through social media, sharing her enthusiasm and pride in the project. The record is scheduled for release on June 12 and is already available for preorder. Shortly after the announcement, she dropped the lead single, giving listeners a first glimpse into the themes and sound of the new era.

With a mix of personal storytelling and pop culture inspiration, Rodrigo's latest project reflects her evolving artistry and her ability to turn familiar narratives into something deeply personal and relatable.
