The cause of death for Nicholas Brendon has been disclosed nearly two months after news of his passing was first shared.
The actor, best known for his role on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, died at 54 on March 20. Medical findings indicate he died from atherosclerotic and hypertensive cardiovascular disease, with acute pneumonia and a prior heart attack listed as contributing conditions.
According to reported autopsy details, the manner of death was natural. It was further noted that there was significant blockage in a major coronary artery, which played a critical role in the fatal event.
Brendon's family had previously stated that he "passed in his sleep of natural causes," sharing the news in a message posted online. Shortly afterward, local authorities confirmed there were no signs of foul play. He was found by a friend assisting with his care, and the scene suggested a peaceful passing.
Throughout his life, the actor experienced a range of medical challenges. Among them was cauda equina syndrome, a serious neurological condition affecting the lower spinal cord. He also underwent multiple surgeries following injuries and complications that impacted his mobility and overall health.
In past social media posts, Brendon spoke candidly about his recovery journey, including spinal procedures and a cardiac episode that required hospitalization. He described the physical and emotional strain of ongoing treatment, as well as the difficulties navigating medical systems while healing.
