Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her doctors to aid her recovery," her manager Matt Davis told Entertainment Weekly on May 7. "We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time, please."
The representative stated about the singer's health, "We will issue a further statement when we are able to."
Bonnie Tyler is recovering from a terrifying incident.
The "Total Eclipse of the Heart" singer was admitted to the hospital for an unidentified bowel problem that necessitated an emergent treatment, her team announced on her official website on May 6.
"We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery," said the statement. “The surgery went well, and she is now recuperating.”
"We know that all of her family, friends, and fans will be concerned about this news," the statement added, "and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery."
Not long before her surgery, the 74-year-old—who has been married to husband Robert Sullivan since 1973—was about to embark on her 2026 European tour and wanted to make sure she was healthy enough to do it.
"I'm fit enough at the moment, touch wood, and I'm really enjoying doing the shows," Bonnie told Hello! in March. "I'm still rocking on that stage with my wonderful band, and if you've got your health, you've got everything."
The "Holding Out for a Hero" singer claimed she was practicing 20 minutes of Pilates a day to help keep her body strong, saying it was "something I can do in my hotel rooms."
"I've had knee difficulties; I didn't get new knees; instead, I had what they call 'washouts' [a surgical knee surgery], which was quite successful," she explained. "So, hopefully that will last for a long time."
When she does go on tour, the Grammy nominee enjoys playing both her "old hit records" and her new songs, adding that she continues to record "new material because my fans cry out for it."
Of course, she enthused about her oldies, saying, "I still love singing them.”
And the opportunity to perform a song like 1983's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" excites her just as much as it did when she first heard it.
"It just blew me away," Bonnie told Hello!. "I don't enjoy filming films; I prefer live performances—but it turned out to be fantastic. It was heavily aired on MTV."
