Singer Demi Lovato has reassured fans that she is recovering after being briefly hospitalized following a suspected allergic reaction, leaving the performer wondering whether passionfruit or sushi may have triggered the incident.

The 34 year old singer shared the update through her Instagram Story after posting a photograph that appeared to show an intravenous line in her arm and a hospital wristband. In a lighthearted message captured by TMZ, Lovato wrote that she might now be allergic to either passionfruit or sushi. She followed the post with a reassuring message telling fans that she was fine.

Although the precise cause of the reaction has not been confirmed publicly, the incident has drawn attention to the unpredictable nature of food allergies. According to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, allergies can develop during adulthood, meaning that foods or substances previously tolerated may later trigger reactions.

For Lovato, the experience adds to a history of unexpected allergic reactions. In 2009, while filming an episode of the Disney Channel series Sonny With a Chance, she experienced an allergic reaction during a scene involving egg salad.

Speaking to Just Jared Jr. at the time, Lovato explained that she had become red and itchy and had to leave the set early. The production team could not simply cover the symptoms with makeup, forcing her to end filming for the day. Despite the discomfort, she recalled the experience as amusing.

The singer has also spoken about sensitivity to animals. In a 2013 interview with BuzzFeed, Lovato described experiencing inconsistent reactions around dogs, while cats could trigger symptoms even when she was several feet away.

She explained that she could sometimes identify the presence of a cat in a room because she would suddenly begin experiencing allergy symptoms. The reactions, she said, could occur even before someone informed her that a cat was nearby.

Her sensitivity did not stop her from adopting a Sphynx cat named Hairy-Ette in 2016. Lovato had hoped that choosing a hairless breed would help her avoid the problem, but she later revealed that she was still allergic to the pet. Despite her disappointment, she made it clear that she intended to keep the animal.

Allergic reactions vary in severity, ranging from mild itching and skin irritation to potentially life threatening symptoms affecting breathing and circulation. Medical professionals advise people who suspect a new allergy to seek appropriate assessment rather than attempting to identify the cause through repeated exposure.

Lovato has not publicly confirmed which food may have caused her latest reaction. Her message that she was fine offered reassurance, but the incident serves as a reminder that allergies can emerge unexpectedly, even for people who have eaten particular foods for years.

For now, fans will be hoping the singer makes a full recovery as she works to establish what triggered the reaction.
