“It ends with us” is a film based on a novel by the award winning writer, Colleen Hoover. The film is based on sensitive themes like domestic violence. The lead actress is almost raped and headbutt till she loses consciousness. She is threatened and hurts herself  when she tries to defend herself. The character of the lead actress was played by Blake Lively, however, she has faced some backlash after the release of the film.

During a recent interview about her new movie, that may be sensitive to many viewers because of domestic violence as a consistent theme, Blake Lively made a joke out of the serious question the reporter had asked.

“For people who see this movie, who relate to the topics of this movie on a deeply personal level, they’re really gonna want to talk to you,” reporter Jake Hamilton said to Lively and her co-star Brandon Sklenar during a virtual press junket. “This movie is gonna affect people, and they’re gonna want to tell you about their lives,” Hamilton continued.

“So if someone understands the themes of this movie and comes across you in public and they want to really talk to you, what’s the best way for them to be able to talk to you about this? How would you recommend they go about it?”

Blake Lively, contrary to what the reporter and the audience expected, she sprawled on the couch and sarcastically said, “Maybe asking for, like, my address, or my phone number. Or, like, location share?! I could just location-share you and then we could…” After her response, she laughed as he co-star, Brandon Sklenar sat silently. Her response was considered inappropriate and insensitive.

“She really said I don’t GAF about your problems, just your money,” one user on X wrote. “Why is she on the coach like that,” one of them wondered, while another stated, “The way she is sitting immediately indicates how much she respects this particular interview.” “That was a genuine question, why did she do that???” someone else asked. “Why is she laughing this is so embarrassing for her.”

While Lively was criticized for her ignorant response, some people defended her, claiming that the question asked was a “dumb” one. “What does Blake Lively know about DV? Does acting in a movie make you a therapist? What actor has the time to arrange a chit chat with someone who resonated w movie?” Some Netizens still believe that the Gossip Girls alum should be able to promote a few resources that will help victims of Domestic violence.
