Ubisoft has announced a delay for the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed Shadows, pushing its release to February 14, 2025. Initially set to launch on November 12, 2024, the game's release has been postponed to allow developers more time to refine the product. This decision comes in the wake of the lukewarm reception of Ubisoft's other major title, Star Wars Outlaws, which faced criticism for bugs and glitches upon release.

Marc-Alexis Cote, the executive producer of Assassin's Creed Shadows, acknowledged the disappointment fans may feel but emphasized the importance of delivering a polished experience. Ubisoft's recent trading update revealed that although the game is "feature complete," additional time is needed to improve its quality. This cautious approach reflects the company's desire to avoid the pitfalls experienced with Star Wars Outlaws, which underperformed commercially despite strong initial reviews.

Fans who had pre-ordered Assassin's Creed Shadows will receive refunds, and those who pre-order for the new release date will receive a free expansion. The game's setting in feudal Japan—a long-requested location by fans—adds to the anticipation surrounding its release.

The delay could have financial implications for Ubisoft, as the holiday season is typically a lucrative time for game sales. However, the company's leadership remains committed to creating a top-quality product, with Yves Guillemot, co-founder of Ubisoft, attributing the delay to the company's lower-than-expected second-quarter performance. Despite recent challenges, Ubisoft aims to regain its momentum with Assassin's Creed Shadows and provide an exceptional experience for players.
