Get ready, Beatles fans—something spectacular is coming to the big screen! Acclaimed director Sam Mendes is bringing an ambitious and unprecedented cinematic event to life: four feature-length biopics, each dedicated to a different member of the legendary band. The films, set for an April 2028 release, will take a deep dive into the individual journeys of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, giving audiences a fresh perspective on the band's rise, struggles, and legacy.
The highly anticipated casting has now been confirmed, and it's a lineup that has fans buzzing. Harris Dickinson, known for his role in Babygirl (2024), will take on the role of John Lennon. Paul Mescal, fresh off his leading performance in Gladiator II, will embody Paul McCartney. Barry Keoghan, who earned critical acclaim in The Banshees of Inisherin (2022), is set to portray Ringo Starr. Finally, Joseph Quinn, widely recognized from Stranger Things, will step into the shoes of George Harrison.
Sony Pictures describes the project as "the first bingeable theatrical experience," a concept that Mendes and Sony executive Tom Rothman hope will redefine how audiences engage with cinema. "Frankly, we need big cinematic events to get people out of the house," Mendes said at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, reinforcing the idea that the Beatles' legacy still has untold stories worth exploring.
While The Beatles' history has been well-documented, Mendes has been granted full access to their life stories and music, ensuring a rich and authentic portrayal of the iconic group. From their humble beginnings in Liverpool in the late 1950s to the height of Beatlemania in the '60s and their eventual split in 1970, the four films promise to capture both the magic and the challenges that shaped the band's journey.
With a cast of rising stars, the backing of Sony, and the directorial brilliance of an Oscar-winner, The Beatles - A Four-Film Cinematic Event is shaping up to be one of the most exciting movie experiences in recent history. The countdown to 2028 has officially begun!
