Kelly Hyland of Dance Moms said that she was first alarmed by a string of compliments. In an exclusive interview with E! News, the reality TV star stated, "My significant weight loss was the first red flag." "I lost enough that others noticed and would ask for my dieting hacks, but there was nothing I had changed in my day-to-day to cause the loss."

Thus, the mother of three took quick action when she discovered a lump in her breast in late March.

The 53-year-old said, "I booked myself a mammogram," highlighting the significance of doing at-home self-examinations. Eight months ago, I had just had one done, and the results were clear. But this new sonogram and mammography did not; the results showed a mass."

The results of further testing confirmed her worst suspicions—"It was malignant"—after a biopsy. Her official diagnosis was grade 3 invasive carcinoma, which indicates that her breast cancer is progressing quickly.

"I got the news weeks after finding the lump, and I went from clean results to a malignant mass in eight months," she said. "I was shocked that it had grown that quickly and scared of the battle I knew I was about to face."

So she went into the trenches with a few troops whom she recruited.

"I would've liked to have told them in person," the Florida resident admitted, "but a phone call was the best I could do given the circumstances." She and her ex-husband Randy Hyland's children, son Josh Hyland, 24, and fellow Dance Mom veterans Brooke Hyland, 26, and Paige Hyland, 23, were more than 1,000 miles away in Pittsburgh. I wanted to inform all of my children at once and make sure they received the same information, so I made a four-way call."

She then added, "It was a very hard conversation for all of us, as you might imagine."

From the minute her mother asked them to pick up the phone, Paige realized how difficult the conversation would be.

She told E! News, "I instantly had a gut feeling something wasn't right." "I felt like I was in shock as she broke the dreadful news to us, but I was soon overcome by a tornado of feelings. In addition to being afraid, I was also upset, depressed, and perplexed as to why something so wonderful as my mother could go wrong."

Fear, however, was the overwhelming emotion as she recalled all the agony associated with witnessing her mother's grandma fight illness.

After losing their grandmother to cancer in 2019, Paige and Brooke talked about their loss and the difficult journey ahead. They were in a similar predicament, having spent years watching their Nana struggle with the illness. Josh, who was initially terrified and unable to speak after learning of his mother's illness, is optimistic that the condition is just in its early stages and that her mother will be able to conquer it. He's trying his hardest not to cry too much for his pillows, as are his sisters.

A portion of Brooke's nervousness subsided after meeting her mother. The travel influencer affirmed her trust in her mother's ability to overcome this, recalling her as the strongest woman she had ever known. She thinks her mother is surrounded by love and support, and they will be there every step of the way.
