Last Friday, the manager of the San Francisco Giants, Gabe Kapler, initiated a protest due to the mass shooting that left 19 children dead at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas by announcing on his blog that he would not take the field to honor the flag and sing the U.S. anthem to raise his voice regarding gun use policies, however, after three days, that protest had a pause due to Memorial Day.

Kapler announced on the same blog that due to the importance of the day in U.S. history, he would take the field this Monday when the Giants visited the Philadelphia Phillies to remember the fallen in the country's various wars.

During a 22-year career, Dominican future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols had done basically everything that could be done on a baseball diamond. Until he stepped onto the Busch Stadium mound Sunday night.

As you're reading: during the Cardinals' 15-6 victory over the Giants, the veteran slugger pitched an inning, something he had never done in 2,987 lifetime Major League games.
