Caitlin Clark added another historic achievement to her growing WNBA résumé during the Indiana Fever's 2026 season opener, earning praise from NBA icon LeBron James after reaching a milestone faster than any player in league history.
Although Indiana fell 107-104 to Dallas in a high-scoring contest at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Saturday, Clark's individual performance once again stole attention. The Fever star became the quickest player in WNBA history to record at least 1,000 points, 250 rebounds and 250 assists. She achieved the feat in only 54 games, surpassing the previous record of 62 games held by WNBA legend Diana Taurasi.
LeBron James reacted to the accomplishment on social media shortly after the game. The Los Angeles Lakers star shared a congratulatory message on his Instagram story, applauding Clark's latest milestone with several clapping emojis.
Clark finished the game with 20 points, seven assists and five rebounds in her first regular season appearance since July 2025. She shot 7-for-18 from the field but struggled to find consistency from beyond the arc, making just two of her nine three-point attempts. She also committed five turnovers during the contest.
Despite the shooting struggles, Clark remained heavily involved throughout the game and nearly helped Indiana force overtime. In the closing moments of the fourth quarter, both she and teammate Kelsey Mitchell had opportunities to hit game-tying three-pointers, but neither attempt fell.
The game itself turned into an offensive showcase from both teams. Dallas proved more efficient offensively, shooting 59 percent from the field and 52 percent from three-point range. Indiana also shot well overall at 52 percent but could not match Dallas from long distance, converting only 29 percent of its shots from behind the arc.
The matchup also entered the history books for another reason. It became the first season opener in WNBA history in which both teams scored more than 100 points, highlighting the fast pace and attacking quality on display throughout the afternoon.
There was also brief concern surrounding Clark's health after she left the court several times during the game. However, the Fever guard later dismissed injury worries, explaining that she was only receiving adjustments for her back and was not dealing with anything serious.
Indiana will now shift focus to its upcoming road game against Los Angeles on Wednesday, with the Fever hoping Clark will continue building momentum after another landmark moment early in the new season.
