Caitlin Clark added another major achievement to her growing list of accomplishments on Thursday night as she continued her remarkable start in the WNBA with the Indiana Fever.
Earlier this season, Clark had already moved into the top five on Indiana's all-time assists list after surpassing several former franchise players. At that point, she had accumulated 471 career assists, placing her among the leading playmakers in Fever history alongside current teammate Kelsey Mitchell.
During Indiana's matchup against the Golden State Valkyries, Clark reached another impressive milestone. In the second quarter, she delivered a cross-court pass to teammate Sophie Cunningham for her 500th career WNBA assist.
The achievement also placed Clark in the league record books. She became the fastest player in WNBA history to record 1,000 career points and 500 assists, accomplishing the feat in only 59 games.
That mark surpassed the previous pace set by WNBA legend Sue Bird by 23 games. Clark also reached the milestone 25 games faster than Sabrina Ionescu.
By recording her 500th assist, Clark also officially qualified for inclusion on the WNBA's all-time assists per game leaderboard. Her career average of 8.6 assists per game now stands as the highest in league history. Courtney Vandersloot currently ranks second with 6.6 assists per game, while Ionescu sits third with 5.9.
Clark's passing ability has been one of the defining strengths of her game since her college years at University of Iowa. During her time there, she became one of the greatest playmakers in women's college basketball history.
She currently ranks third all-time in women's college basketball with 1,144 career assists, placing her ahead of both Vandersloot and Ionescu on the all-time list.
If Clark remains healthy and continues producing at her current pace, she could eventually challenge Bird's all-time WNBA assists record of 3,234. While there is still a considerable distance to cover before reaching that total, Clark's early success has already established her as one of the league's most dynamic young stars.
Her rapid rise continues to strengthen her reputation as one of the most influential athletes ever to come out of Iowa basketball.
