Juan Izquierdo, a center-back for Uruguay's Club Nacional de Football, passed away on August 27 due to a cardiac arrhythmia-related cardiopulmonary arrest. His team acknowledged this five days after he collapsed on the pitch during a match against Sao Paulo Football Club. His age was 27.

Through translation, Nacional posted in Spanish on X on August 27, saying, "It is with deepest pain and shock in our hearts that Club Nacional de Football announces the passing of our beloved player Juan Izquierdo." "We send our deepest sympathies to his loved ones, friends, coworkers, and family. National as a whole is in mourning for his irreversible loss. RIP. You will always be with us, Juan.

Juan was seen on camera collapsing to the ground during the Aug. 22 game in the Brazilian capital, and a teammate was seen rushing to his aid. Team mates from Sao Paulo and Nacional encircled the player while paramedics hurried over.

The same day, Juan's football team released a statement from Albert Einstein Hospital stating that he was receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) after experiencing an abnormal heartbeat during the game.
