Jobe Bellingham has officially signed with Borussia Dortmund from Sunderland on a five-year contract running until June 2030. The transfer marks a club-record sale for Sunderland, with the deal reportedly worth €32 million (£26.96 million), plus an additional €5 million (£4.2 million) in performance-based add-ons. Bellingham, 19, joined Sunderland in 2023 and made 90 appearances, playing a crucial role in their promotion to the Premier League during the 2024–25 season.

Bellingham began his football journey at Birmingham City, where he rose through the academy ranks before breaking into the senior team and playing there for two years. His talent and consistency at Sunderland earned him the Championship Young Player of the Season award, further boosting his profile across Europe. In his farewell message to Sunderland supporters, he expressed pride in the strong connection he built with the fans and pledged to carry the spirit of Wearside with him throughout his career. "I hope I have made you proud along the way, and in return, you have made me the player that has reached the heights I find myself at today," he said. "I will love and remember you fondly for the rest of my life."

The timing of the deal, completed by 10 June, makes Bellingham eligible to feature for Dortmund in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, which begins on Sunday in the United States. Dortmund will face Brazilian side Fluminense in their opening group match on 17 June. Bellingham has also been included in England's squad for the UEFA European Under-21 Championship, which runs from 11–28 June in Slovakia. However, head coach Lee Carsley has confirmed that players may be released to participate in the Club World Cup if needed.

Jobe is following in the footsteps of his older brother Jude Bellingham, who also came through Birmingham City's youth system and previously played for Dortmund before moving to Real Madrid in 2023. Despite the comparisons, Jobe has been clear about wanting to establish his own identity in the football world.

Dortmund, a club with eight Bundesliga titles to their name, secured Champions League qualification for the next season after finishing fourth in the 2024–25 league campaign. Bellingham's arrival adds further depth and promise to their midfield.
