Porsche has officially unveiled the 2026 Cayenne Electric, an all-new, all-electric version of its bestselling SUV, while boldly declaring it the "most powerful" production vehicle the company has ever built. The announcement marks a major moment for Porsche, which is simultaneously pushing forward in EV development while rethinking its long-term electric strategy.

According to Porsche, the Cayenne EV delivers astonishing numbers: 1,139 horsepower, up to 1,106 pound-feet of torque, and a blistering 0–60 mph time of 2.4 seconds when launch mode is activated. Even outside of its peak performance setting, the SUV produces up to 844 horsepower, placing it well beyond any previous Cayenne variant.

For comparison, the previous titleholder for Porsche's most powerful road-legal model, the Taycan Turbo GT, generated 1,019 horsepower. The Cayenne EV surpasses it by a wide margin, signaling Porsche's intent to dominate the luxury performance EV segment.

Pricing reflects that ambition. The top-spec Cayenne Turbo Electric starts at $163,000, positioning it among the most expensive vehicles in Porsche's lineup. A standard version with 402 horsepower and 615 pound-feet of torque begins at $109,000, giving buyers performance tiers that span from high capability to extreme output.

The vehicle features a 113-kWh battery supported by 800-volt architecture, enabling rapid charging from 10% to 80% in under 16 minutes, Porsche claims. It also introduces optional inductive wireless charging, though this method is notably slower than conventional plug-in charging.

Despite rolling out its most advanced EV yet, Porsche has recently shifted its broader strategy. In September, CEO Oliver Blume confirmed the company would scale back some previously announced EV plans and continue producing internal-combustion and hybrid vehicles. The decision follows dramatic swings in the U.S. EV market, intensified by regulatory shifts under the Trump administration that eliminated federal tax credits of up to $7,500 for EV buyers.

Still, Porsche expects strong interest. Ordering for the Cayenne Electric is already open, with first deliveries scheduled for late next summer. The new model will sit alongside gasoline and plug-in hybrid versions, making the Cayenne the only Porsche available in three distinct powertrains.

With performance leadership, rapid-charging capability, and bold positioning, the 2026 Cayenne Electric represents Porsche's most ambitious move yet in the high-end EV race.
