Jon Bon Jovi, the famous lead singer of the rock band Bon Jovi, recently talked about feeling nervous about going back to performing live after throat surgery, saying he doesn't want to decline like "fat Elvis."
The 62-year-old singer had throat surgery in 2022 and continues to undergo vocal therapy in hopes of enhancing his voice over time. He recently admitted uncertainty about the durability of his voice for future tours and live shows. He said, "If the singing is not great, if I can't be the guy I once was … then I'm done."
Despite managing to record a studio album post-surgery, Bon Jovi remains cautious about his return to the stage, acknowledging that "there is a big difference between being in a studio and going out on the road. We have just recorded a new album. I sing in vocal therapy every day."
His dedication to vocal therapy underscores his determination to rehabilitate his voice, yet he remains afraid of disappointing fans with lacklustre performances. Reflecting on the challenge of ageing and its impact on his singing abilities, he confessed, "I can tell you that 60 is different from 50, and my current concern is that I'm going to forget how to sing." Despite these uncertainties, Bon Jovi finds solace in his work, particularly through the JBJ Soul Foundation's initiatives aimed at aiding the homeless and impoverished.
Looking ahead, Bon Jovi remains optimistic about the band's upcoming projects, including a new album and charitable endeavours. He hopes to find joy in his achievements and embrace the legacy of Bon Jovi's four-decade journey. “I want to look back on 40 years of Bon Jovi, look forward to the new album and appreciate everything. That’s my hope, to find joy in it all,” he said.
