Pop icon and longtime Idol panelist Katy Perry didn't hold back when judging the singing competition's contestants, and couldn't avoid a wardrobe malfunction during Monday night's broadcast.

"I needed my top to stay on," Perry said in an Instagram video shared overnight, which showed her holding the chrome piece to her chest while a team of Idol crew members attempted to fix it during a commercial break. "If it wasn't fixed, this show was gonna get more than it wanted."
Perry's fellow Idol judge Luke Bryan made a cameo in the clip, exclaiming, "I got it," before jumping behind his colleague with a pair of scissors, but to no avail. The video also included a portion from the Idol episode, with Perry informing host Ryan Seacrest that the previous song "broke my top off."
Perry then could be seen covering herself with a pillow and ducking below the judges' desk to hide her top half. "It was a family show," she joked. The 39-year-old also confirmed in the video's caption that her "top broke" at some point during the show, shortly after sharing another photo that detailed the top's shark-like shape constructed out of shiny, solid material.
Perry's Idol wardrobe malfunction wasn't the singer's only fashion-based development that courted eyeballs in recent days. On Saturday, the "I Kissed a Girl" performer hit the red carpet at the Breakthrough Prize Ceremony in Los Angeles with husband Orlando Bloom, where she teased her upcoming album with a tiny, clear purse that contained a note that read "KP6: TOP SECRET" — a clear nod to her long-rumored upcoming album.
