A tragic loss has left the MTV community in mourning. According to her sister Lakshmi Emory, Ananda Lewis, a former VJ on MTV programs like Hot Zone and Total Request Live, has passed away. She was fifty-two.
In a Facebook post on June 11, Emory wrote, "She's free, and in His heavenly arms." "May her soul rest, Lord."
It is unknown what caused the death.
Lewis had been fighting breast cancer before she died; she first disclosed her diagnosis of stage 3 breast cancer in an Instagram post in 2020.
The former TV host revealed four years later that she had chosen to "keep my tumor and try to work it out of my body a different way" rather than undergo a double mastectomy.
"Initially, my goal was to rid my body of too many toxins," Lewis stated in a CNN interview from October 2024. "I know that my body is intelligent, but I felt that way nonetheless. Our bodies are incredibly well-made.
She underlined her regret after considering her course of treatment. She went on, "I wish I could go back." "It's critical that I acknowledge my mistakes in this."
Lewis also disclosed that her cancer had progressed to stage 4 and that her tumor had spread, which later caused her to take stock of her life.
In a January essay that appeared in Essence, she stated, "We're not meant to stay here forever." "We enter this life, go through experiences, and then leave. Being honest with yourself about that alters your life choices.
"I don't want to spend one more minute than I have to suffer needlessly," she continued, urging others to understand that "prevention is the real cure" for cancer. I'm not interested in that kind of quality of life. I want to be able to reflect on my life when the time comes for me to leave and say, "I did that exactly how I wanted to.'"
