Selena Gomez, her mother Mandy Teefey and former business partner Daniella Pierson are facing a lawsuit from investors who allege they were misled about the financial and operational state of Wondermind, the mental-health company the trio launched.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Delaware, was brought by Wondermind SRS 44 LLC and Bespoke Wondermind LLC, which claim they invested nearly $1.2 million in the company in 2022. According to the complaint, investors were told Wondermind had the leadership, infrastructure and resources needed to become a profitable mental-health and wellness platform.
The plaintiffs also allege Gomez was expected to play an active role in developing the company through her marketing reach, social media presence, advertising partnerships and television appearances. They claim several initiatives presented to them never came to fruition.
"The partnerships did not exist. The initiatives never materialized. The app was never built," the complaint states.
The investors allege that Wondermind's difficulties remained hidden for years and that they only became aware of the extent of the company's problems after media reports emerged in 2025. A September investigation by The Cut reportedly detailed financial and operational turmoil within the business, while Forbes had earlier reported staff reductions and financial difficulties.
The lawsuit also raises allegations concerning Teefey's management of the company and her relationship with Pierson, who left Wondermind in January 2023 following an internal dispute. Teefey has denied allegations concerning drug use and accused former employees of spreading false claims.
When one investor later questioned Teefey about the status of their investment, she allegedly responded, "I thought we returned your investment along with the other investors you came in with." After being told the money had not been received, she reportedly directed the matter to Gomez's legal team.
Gomez, Teefey and Pierson have been accused of securities fraud and breach of contract. The investors are seeking the return of their investment, damages, legal costs and attorneys' fees, and have requested a jury trial.
Wondermind was created as a platform focused on mental-health conversations, content and community. Gomez had previously spoken publicly about her commitment to mental-health awareness, telling Entrepreneur in 2021, "Something I've always tried to do in my career is make sure I lend my voice to places where it matters."
