Remember that fleeting moment at the Oscars when the camera caught Emma Stone muttering something to her husband after Jimmy Kimmel's joke about her film "Poor Things"? The internet ran wild, with lip-reading detectives piecing together a narrative of offense. Well, Stone is here to clear the air, and it turns out, the whole thing was a big misunderstanding.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Stone addressed the viral clip head-on. "I didn't call him a p—k," she stated, dispelling the internet's speculation. "I wasn't upset with him at all. I'll have to look that up," she added, revealing she wasn't even aware of the rumors.
For those who missed the Oscars telecast, Kimmel made a lighthearted jab at "Poor Things" after showcasing a montage of clips from the Best Picture nominees. The R-rated film, known for its graphic nature, prompted Kimmel's quip, "Those were all the parts of 'Poor Things' that we're allowed to show on TV." The camera then caught Stone's reaction, and social media did the rest.
Thankfully, Stone, as her "The Curse" co-star Nathan Fielder described, possesses a great sense of humor. "I'm near-unoffendable," she confirmed, putting the entire episode to rest.
This year's ceremony saw Stone collect her second Oscar for Best Actress, solidifying her place in Hollywood's A-list. Her performance as Bella Baxter in Yorgos Lanthimos' "Poor Things" was critically acclaimed, and the film itself garnered a total of 11 nominations, taking home four golden statuettes.
Stone and Lanthimos are no strangers to collaboration. Prior to "Poor Things," they joined forces for the 2018 film "The Favourite." Their successful partnership continues with "Kinds of Kindness," set to hit theaters on June 21st. So, while the Oscars moment may have caused a stir online, it's clear Stone's focus remains on her craft and the exciting projects on the horizon.
