Meghan Markle's fashion sense has always been a subject of public fascination. Since stepping down as a senior royal and moving to California with Prince Harry, her style has evolved significantly. Meghan has adopted a noticeable trend:Instead of opting for tailored outfits, Meghan often wears trousers, skirts and dresses that drag along the floor.
During a recent tour in Nigeria, Meghan was seen in various long outfits, such as a blush silk Windsor dress in Abuja and a Carolina Herrera Silk Overlay Column gown in "taxi cab" yellow in Lagos. These outfits, although available in tailored versions, were chosen in their original long forms, adding to Meghan’s distinctive look. Similarly, during the Invictus Games in Frankfurt, Meghan wore a chocolate-colored blouse and taupe trousers that trailed on the floor.
Celebrity stylist Rochelle White offers a detailed explanation of Meghan Markle's fashion choices. According to White, this is a strategic decision aimed at creating the illusion of greater height and achieving a more elongated silhouette. "Long dresses and trousers, depending on body type, can help elongate and shape the body. They can make you look bigger and, depending on the styles, can help define areas of the body that you want to emphasize or cover,” White said.
White notes that Meghan's choice to let her outfits skim or drag on the floor, rather than tailoring them to her height, contributes to this elongated effect. ‘When I look at Meghan, I feel like these styles make her look taller and emphasize her silhouette. I feel like it makes her look bigger. I feel like she knows her body and the things or items that work best for her and plays into that with her appearance," she said.
Furthermore, White contrasts Meghan's style with that of Kate Middleton. While Kate often opts for classic and tailored pieces, Meghan's wardrobe choices reflect a more relaxed and personal style. "Meghan has more of a trendy edge when it comes to her style. Kate is very classic and chic in her fits and style, with traditional pieces included. With Meghan, I feel like she is very much herself and has elements that really showcase her personality and personal style.”
