During the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala in Cap d'Antibes, France, Demi Moore took the stage on Thursday to introduce Cher, delivering a heartfelt tribute to the entertainment icon. The "Ghost" star, 61, was mid-speech when she seemed to be irked by a member of the audience.
A video posted by Ramin Setoodeh on Twitter captures Demi starting with, "I'm going to see if this is the moment we've all been waiting for." She continued, "I'm just making sure that you're really, really with me. Because this incredible woman that I'm about to introduce—she's a Grammy winner, an Oscar winner, an Emmy winner."
At this point, Demi paused, appearing visibly annoyed by someone in the back, and snapped, "Are you an Emmy winner over there in the back of the room? I f*****g don't think so." The audience reacted with a mix of surprise and cheers before Demi resumed her introduction.
"She's a style icon and my personal hair inspiration. And she was honored by amfAR with their Award of Inspiration in 2015," Demi continued. "The bottom line is she is just one of the most talented, successful, and best-loved performers of all time." With a final dramatic pause and a sweeping gaze over the crowd, she concluded, "So please, give a warm welcome to the incredible, one and only, Cher."
It's unclear whether Demi's outburst was in response to something said by an audience member or simply due to the general noise, or if she was being playful. Earlier, Demi and Cher had posed together on the red carpet, reuniting nearly 30 years after starring in the 1996 HBO series "If These Walls Could Talk."
The gala, which raises funds for HIV/AIDS research, saw numerous stars in attendance, including Cher and her younger boyfriend, Alexander "AE" Edwards, 38. Cher also performed during the evening, stunning the crowd in a black sparkling bodysuit and leather jacket, as shown in a clip shared by model Heidi Klum on Instagram.
Inside the event, Demi dazzled in a plunging, sparkling silver gown with nude panels, accentuating her figure and accessorized with a statement diamond necklace. Her long raven hair, styled sleekly, evoked Cher's iconic 70s look. Earlier on the red carpet, Demi wore a white cowl-neck dress with a high side split and a long train, complemented by silver jewelry and heeled sandals, her hair pinned up.
Demi and Cher showcased their enduring friendship with affectionate poses on the red carpet, wrapping their arms around each other and sharing a kiss. Alexander, Cher's boyfriend, joined them for photos, and Demi's train was held by a man in a silver suit to facilitate her movement.
Outside, Demi had a chance encounter with Paris Jackson, Michael Jackson's eldest daughter, who was dressed in all-black and accessorized with leafy jewelry.
