Country music star Maren Morris has announced that she is bisexual in a heartfelt Instagram post celebrating Pride Month. On June 9, Morris shared photos from her tour stop in Phoenix, proudly waving a Pride flag. "Happy to be the B in LGBTQ+," she captioned the post, adding "Happy pride" to her message.
Maren’s fans and peers expressed their support following her announcement. Musicians Heather Mae, Scott Hoying, and Allison Ponthier were among those who commented with messages of love and solidarity. "Crying! So happy for you! Happy Pride, bb!" wrote Mae, while Ponthier added, "HAPPY PRIDE!!!!! Thanks for being an inspiration and what a special pride this one is."
The 34-year-old Grammy winner has long been an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. In 2022, she clashed publicly with Brittany Aldean, the wife of country star Jason Aldean, over transphobic comments made by Brittany. Morris’s advocacy led to her being labelled a "lunatic country music person" by Tucker Carlson on Fox News, a label she embraced by selling merchandise with the phrase to benefit Trans Lifeline and the GLAAD Transgender Media Program.
Morris has often used her platform to speak out against the lack of inclusivity in country music. During a 2023 Billboard interview, she criticized the numerous anti-LGBTQ+ bills in the U.S., stating, "The fact is, they don't have solutions for actual problems. This is their niche thing that they get to go off on."
Morris continues to advocate for change within the industry, expressing frustration over the expectation to stay silent on social issues. "I have heard the term 'Shut up and sing' more times than I can count. You're going to lose fans along the way... but there is a lane that you're widening; I see it year over year at my shows, the crowd feels so diverse and so safe."
Currently headlining her RSVP Redux Tour, Morris donates $1 from every ticket sold to LGBTQ+ youth organizations.
