Becoming a father will always be Josh Hartnett's favorite role. The actor from Black Mirror, who has four children with wife Tamsin Egerton, talked candidly about his life as a father. He said that it was really difficult to reconcile being a parent and portraying a bereaved father in season six of the sci-fi Netflix series.
Regarding the challenging job, Josh remarked, "I'm not great at getting out of it, especially if it's hard to get into," in a June 10 Variety interview. "It takes about the same amount of kind of effort to come out because I can't just pick it up and put it down."
"At the same time, I have amazing friends, an amazing family, and kids who don't care what I've been doing at work," the 45-year-old said. I really cannot bring it out since they need things. It isn't a choice.
Josh has realized that his family is more important to him than his Hollywood profession, which he temporarily abandoned in order to prioritize his mental health.
"I love my work and I want to put it out there and I want people to enjoy it," he shared. "But like me, personally, I don't feel the way that I did when I was younger, because I was undefined."
Josh reflected on how, during the height of his success in the early aughts, he was "still trying to figure out" who he was. "Something of that magnitude that everybody knew about and sort of thought of me as the character had an effect on me that I kicked back against," he said. At that age, I had to deal with it constantly and was still figuring out who I was and what I meant to the people in my life."
He continued, "I don't think that could happen again at the age of 45—I hope I've got a little bit more there."
Yes, a lot has happened since Josh starred in box office hits like Pearl Harbor and Black Hawk Down in 2001. Not only did he start a family, but he also moved to Tamsin's home country of England to get away from the paparazzi that never stop following.
In fact, he and the 35-year-old Grimsby actress were so secretive about their romance that, until March 2022, no one knew they were married. They had been wedded for four months. The devoted couple has also chosen not to reveal their children's names in public, keeping their offspring out of the spotlight.
