British pop star Jessie J is back in the hospital, just six weeks after undergoing surgery for early-stage breast cancer. The 37-year-old singer took to Instagram on Sunday to share a sobering update with fans, revealing she had returned to the same ward she had been admitted to for her cancer procedure.

"Six weeks post-surgery, and I was back in the same ward," Jessie wrote alongside a photo showing IV tubes in her arm. "Not expected or planned."

Doctors initially feared she had developed a pulmonary embolism, a blood clot in the lungs, after she experienced labored breathing and tightness in her chest. "I had, and still have, symptoms that pointed towards a blood clot on the lung," she shared. "IT IS NOT A BLOOD CLOT, THANK GOD."

Medical teams later ruled out the clot and suggested she had "a little fluid" in her lungs, possibly triggered by an undiagnosed infection. While the specific infection remains unknown, Jessie noted that she opted to discharge herself from the hospital after 24 hours, choosing to continue treatment as an outpatient. "Finding it hard to breathe in, but I discharged myself last night. I hate being in [the] hospital," she explained. "I know many people who've been through this might agree or not, and that's OK."

Jessie first made her cancer diagnosis public in June. She underwent surgery on June 23 to remove the malignant tissue. Doctors later confirmed the procedure had been successful, with all cancerous spots removed. "The recovery, physically, is far from quick or easy," she said. The emotional toll has been just as heavy. "Mentally it's been the most challenging time for me," Jessie admitted. "Especially as a mum with a toddler and being unable to be the mother I usually am." Her partner, professional basketball player Chanan Colman, has reportedly stepped in as primary caregiver to their 2-year-old son, Sky.

The health setback has also disrupted her professional plans. "Having to change the plans for my career for this year has been frustrating after working so hard to get to this point and excited to do it all," she wrote. "It's life. I know that."

Jessie's decision to share the raw details of her journey continues to highlight the complexities of cancer recovery, where physical healing, mental endurance, and personal identity collide in unpredictable ways.
