Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid experienced a frightening close call in May 2024 when a bullet pierced his office window while he was working late at the team's practice facility. According to the Kansas City Star, the shot broke through the glass just after midnight on May 4, ultimately lodging in a wall between Reid's bathroom and office door. The bullet stopped only 15 feet from where the coach was sitting at his desk.

Police confirmed that Reid, 67, was alone in his second-story office at the time. "When officers arrived, they were told by overnight security that someone in the building alerted them to hearing a noise and observed what appeared to be a bullet hole in a window," Kansas City Police Department spokesperson Capt. Jacob Becchina said. He added, "No one was struck, and there were no injuries associated with the incident."

Authorities later confirmed that two other bullets also struck the building that night. One struck the building's third floor, while another landed in an outdoor air-conditioning unit. "Because the building was occupied at the time of the bullet coming through the window, the case is being investigated as an aggravated assault," Capt. Becchina explained. However, he also clarified, "There is no indication this was a targeted incident at any person or organization."

More than a year later, no arrests or charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing. According to a team insider, the Chiefs believe the incident was random. In response to the incident, the Chiefs discreetly reinforced Reid's office with bulletproof glass. Few within the organization knew what had happened at the time, and the matter was kept under wraps until recent reporting brought it to light.

Since joining Kansas City in 2013, Reid has led the franchise to multiple championships and cemented his place among the NFL's winningest coaches.
