Raegan Revord, best known for portraying Missy Cooper on Young Sheldon, has publicly come out as nonbinary at the age of 17. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actor reflected on their personal journey and the significance of representation for queer youth.

"It's so cool because growing up, whenever I would see a celebrity or whoever come out as nonbinary or queer, I was like, 'Oh my god, this is so cool, I see myself in you,'" Revord explained. "It's so crazy to have that experience where I'm now that person and there might be a kid somewhere who's like, 'Oh my god, I see myself in you.' And that's such an insane thing 'cause I was in that kid's shoes at some point in my life."

Revord portrayed Missy Cooper throughout all seven seasons of Young Sheldon, which ran from 2017 to 2024, and later returned to the role in the spinoff series Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage. They described their connection to the character, saying, "I love her so much, especially because I view her very much like nine-year-old me. I'm very protective of Missy. I love her to death. And she is such a fun character to play, and I know her so well. So I will always love to return to Missy."

Their announcement also aligns with their creative pursuits beyond acting. On September 2, Revord released their debut novel, Rules for Fake Girlfriends, a queer romantic comedy about a college student caught in a fake dating scheme. Speaking to People, Revord shared, "A lot of people will doubt you because of your age, and a lot of people will not take you seriously. I had such a passion and such a love for this book and this story, and I thought it was so important to tell. And if that's how you feel about being a writer, then you have enough."

Revord has spoken about how they drew creative motivation from other queer-centered stories, particularly Heartstopper. They admired the way such narratives capture the innocence of first love while also portraying the strength of chosen families, which inspired them to craft a story that carries a similar spirit in their own debut novel.
