Spencer Hatcher is returning to work. The country music artist sent a message to his fans six weeks after his mother, Holly Hatcher, was murdered by an armed intruder in her Virginia home.
In a video that was uploaded to his YouTube channel on September 9, he said, "I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to you all for all the love and support that you all have shown me and my family over the last month." We tried our best to read all of the kind posts, messages, and comments that you all sent. However, I just wanted to let everyone know how grateful I am for each and every one of you.
The 28-year-old stated that he intends to pursue his career because it is "what my mom would want me to do," adding that the time since the murder "has really been the worst time of our life" for him and his family.
He went on, "I've decided that I absolutely want to continue making music, showing up on stage, and making people smile." "I will not give up. I'm going to continue. Like I've always done, I'm going to give it my all. And when I return to it, I want you all to accompany me on this journey.
Spencer went on to say that he plans to keep the promises he made before his mother passed away.
"We're going to resume our previous schedule, we're going to perform at these radio stations, and we're going to keep performing," he said. "I hope you all are as excited about it as my mom was, because she was really thrilled about all the opportunities and the music."
According to Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson, Holly, a schoolteacher in Virginia, passed away on August 3 at the age of 62 after being fatally stabbed by an intruder who was later identified by police as 41-year-old Kevin Walker. Following that, Walker assaulted her husband, Michael Hatcher, who took a pistol from his vehicle and opened fire.
“There's no way for you to know the trauma and the pain and the unanswered questions that I have had [and] that my three sons, Dane, Spencer, and Connor, have had,” Michael said in a joint video statement with the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office days after the incident. “Each of you has made it much more bearable through your outpouring of love and your caring and your kindness and support to all of us, and for that, I thank you so much.”
