The feud between Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling and actress Emma Watson has reignited after Watson spoke candidly about their strained relationship on Jay Shetty's On Purpose podcast.

Watson, 35, who played Hermione Granger in the beloved fantasy franchise, reflected on her feelings toward Rowling, 60. During the September 24 interview, Watson said she could "never cancel" Rowling, emphasizing the importance of treating everyone "with dignity and respect," even when disagreements arise. She added, "I believe no one is disposable," while admitting she wished there had been an open, honest dialogue between them.

Rowling, however, responded fiercely on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, September 29, accusing Watson of misunderstanding the realities surrounding the ongoing debate about transgender rights.

"Like other people who've never experienced adult life uncushioned by wealth and fame, Emma has so little experience of real life she's ignorant of how ignorant she is," Rowling wrote.

The author also claimed that Watson once sent her a handwritten note expressing sympathy during a period when Rowling faced intense backlash, including violent threats over her stance on sex and gender. Rowling alleged that Watson's public comments at the time had "poured petrol on the flames," despite the private gesture.

Rowling went on to criticize Watson and fellow star Daniel Radcliffe, saying they've positioned themselves as "de facto spokespeople" for the wizarding world years after filming wrapped.

"I'm not owed eternal agreement from actors who played characters I created," Rowling wrote. "But Emma and Dan have used their connection to the franchise to publicly critique me and my views."

Watson has long voiced her support for the transgender community, famously stating in 2020, "Trans people are who they say they are," after Rowling's controversial comments sparked widespread backlash.

Despite the sharp words, Watson told Shetty she remains open to speaking with Rowling directly: "Yeah, and I always will. I completely believe in that," she said.
