Before becoming one of Hollywood's most recognizable stars, Keanu Reeves was almost known by a very different name — Chuck Spadina.

During an appearance on the New Heights podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce, the John Wick and Matrix actor reflected on the early pressures he faced after moving to Los Angeles at age 20. "I was in Toronto, Canada, and then I got a manager who lived in Los Angeles," Reeves said. "At 20 years old, I drove in my car to Los Angeles. Got out of my car and my manager said, 'We want to change your name.'"

The suggestion left him conflicted. He described it as a "welcome to Hollywood" moment that prompted deep reflection about his identity. "I remember I was walking on the beach and I was just like, 'My name? What if I change my name?'"

Reeves began brainstorming alternatives on his own. "My middle name is Charles, so I was like, '...Chuck?' And I grew up on a street called Spadina, so Chuck Spadina." He also briefly went by "K.C. Reeves" and was even credited under that name in a 1986 episode of The Magical World of Disney.

But the change didn't last long. "And then I couldn't do it," Reeves recalled. "I would be in auditions and they would go, 'K.C. Reeves?' And I wouldn't even answer. Six months later, I was like, 'I'm not doing this.'"

The actor's story mirrors similar experiences shared by other stars. Leonardo DiCaprio once revealed that an early agent told him his name was "too ethnic" and suggested changing it to "Lenny Williams." Like Reeves, he refused.

Now, decades later, Reeves looks back at that period with gratitude for staying true to himself. He currently stars in Good Fortune, written and directed by Aziz Ansari, where he plays a guardian angel who loses his wings while helping a man learn that wealth can't buy happiness.

"I couldn't do it," Reeves said of the attempted name change. "It just wasn't me."
