Cody "Beef" Franke, a rising star within the Barstool Sports golf community, has died at the age of 31. His passing was publicly announced on Monday, Oct. 27, by the podcast team at Fore Play, stating he succumbed to a "sudden medical issue" over the weekend.

Originally a PGA of America professional, Franke had transitioned into social-media golf instruction and joined Barstool earlier this year. Known for his unbound enthusiasm and ability to break down swing tips for everyday golfers, he quickly became a fan favourite.

According to the Fore Play statement, "Cody truly loved the game of golf. He selflessly spent much of his life helping others improve and enjoy the game. Watching golf bring people happiness brought him happiness, and that infectious personality was felt by everyone who met him."

Barstool founder Dave Portnoy paid tribute on social media, writing, "Barstool lost a member of our family this weekend... You will never find a nicer, more genuine person than Beef. It's hard to even process it right now."

The golf influencer was reportedly attending a wedding in the Dominican Republic when his health issue occurred, according to colleagues. The exact cause of death has not yet been publicly disclosed.

Franke's rise was notable: from working at clubs in California and Wisconsin to becoming Barstool's lead golf professional, he once described the fairway as his "home", a place where "it doesn't really feel like work-work."

Tributes have poured in from across the golf and media sphere. Fellow influencers and PGA coaches emphasised how Franke's kindness, humor and genuine approach to golf made him beloved. One commented: "Life is wild, this hits. Beef was so nice to everyone he met."

In mourning his loss, the Barstool community pledged to "remove our hats for Cody today and every day," honouring his signature gesture of respect.

As the news settles, many are reflecting on the fragility of life and the impact one person can make through kindness and passion. Beef's legacy lives on through the countless golfers he inspired, and through the memories of those who learned from him and laughed with him along the way.
