Luigi Mangione, the 27-year-old accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, is reportedly keeping up with pop culture while awaiting trial at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.

According to a letter allegedly sent to a fan, Mangione has been listening to Taylor Swift and Charli XCX from his prison-issued tablet. He wrote that he decided to give their music a try after a fake list of his favorite artists circulated online, sparking interest in what he actually listens to.

The Ivy League graduate, who is facing both state and federal charges related to Thompson's December 2024 shooting, reportedly described listening to Swift's Cardigan while walking laps in his prison unit before another inmate intervened. The inmate, identified only as "King," is said to have convinced him to replace the pop playlist with songs by Lil Durk instead.

The handwritten note, allegedly dated June, surfaced on X this week after a fan posted it online. TMZ and Us Weekly have reported on the letter, with Us citing a source who confirmed its authenticity. The fan, however, later claimed they were not in contact with TMZ, leaving some uncertainty about the verification.

The letter also included a list of 27 things Mangione said he was grateful for, ranging from family, friends, and music to his cellmate and prison meals. He described receiving letters from supporters as a bright spot in his routine, helping to offset the monotony of prison life. Among his favorite items purchased through commissary are peanut butter, tuna packets, and barbecue sauce.

Mangione's attorney, Arthur Aidala—known for representing high-profile clients including Harvey Weinstein—told People that his client has been a model inmate and even acts as an informal "ambassador" for new arrivals, helping them adjust to life in the facility.

Mangione, who has pleaded not guilty to all charges, faces the possibility of the death penalty if convicted of murder with a firearm in the federal case.
