Meghan Trainor is speaking openly about the health scare that marked the beginning of her major lifestyle shift. The singer said her transformation traces back to her pregnancy, when she was diagnosed with gestational diabetes — an experience she described as the moment that "started" her focus on long-term health.

During a recent radio interview, Trainor recalled how people questioned why she looks different now, noting, "Everyone's just being like, 'Why are you thin now? You were 'All About That Bass' girl.' I was like, 'I was 19 when I came out with that song.'" She explained that the public commentary overlooks the years that have passed and the changes she has gone through since becoming a mother.

Speaking about the diagnosis, she said, "I had gestational diabetes. And I was like, 'Oh, I got to learn about health and fitness.'" She shared that her children and her desire to stay active in music motivated her to strengthen her body, adding, "If I want to tour forever, I got to be at my strongest. If I want to lift up my kids from their crib and not pull out my back."

Trainor said she now trains regularly and checks in on her overall wellbeing, explaining, "Now I'm obsessed with like how's my hormones? How's my gut? Because I just want to feel good, because this job is hard to do if you don't feel good."

Even though she felt healthier, she explained that the online reaction caught her off guard. She received significant criticism about her weight loss, which left her unsettled and confused. She noted that it felt ironic — at a time when she was finally proud of her progress and learning to appreciate herself, the negativity toward her was at its highest.

She has previously talked about prioritizing her health after her second pregnancy, explaining that she worked closely with professionals and relied on medical support, including treatments like Mounjaro, to help her become the healthiest and strongest version of herself for both her children and for her own wellbeing.

To cope with criticism, Trainor channels her emotions into music. Her recent single "Still Don't Care" was inspired by the backlash, and she described the songwriting process as "my therapy, my exposure therapy."

Trainor said she continues to lean on her support system, including her therapist, who reminded her, "You give these strangers so much power," a statement she admitted she "hated hearing" but needed.
